B”H
The 24th of Tevet.
Chof Daled Tevet.
The anniversary of the passing of The Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Shneur Zalman.
The Rebbe Maharash- Rabbi Shmuel asked his father The Tzemach Tzedek, Rabbi Menachem Mendel,
What did our grandfather* The Alter Rebbe want to achieve with the ways of Chassidus and through the study of Chassidus?
The Tzemach Tzedek answered-
The goal of the ways of Chassidus is that all Chassidim should be like one family, united in love according to The Torah.
Chassidus is vitality, bringing energy and light into everything, even into those things that are undesirable.
We should recognize our own evil as it is, so that we can correct it.
- Hayom Yom, 24th of Tevet.
As I type, sitting on a window sill from the student kitchen in my school, window open, onto a New York fire escape,
Laptop plugged into an outlet from the counter,
I breathe in the crisp, fresh, freezing air.
The trees might be bare,
The sky might be pale,
But I look behind me, into the room,
And its bustling.
Lunch is my time to reflect,
I know its a social time to get to know the other girls in my class,
But being in class from 8:30, with tons of people, and lots of information,
I need a second for some introspection.
Its bustling with women who are here to get that vitality, to learn about why they're here in this world, and get the tools they need to achieve their mission, their purpose.
To me, Chassidus is life.
That was really cool-
My computer underlined Chassidus in red because it wasn’t capitalized.
That’s how much Chassidus is part of my life.
When auto correct knows whats the, can even realize that it is the most important thing to you.
Some might be like,
Oh ya, Chassidus, Torah, praying, Judaism, its part of life.
But when you sit down and realize who you are, and why youre breathing in this world,
You realize that life is one and the same with Chassidus, with Torah.
It is.
They are the same.
Its confusing to me of someone separates it,
Its like separating
Life, and food.
Or life and air.
If there was no air, or food,
Would there even be life?
No.
When people don't realize this,
When people don't realize who they are,
And that they have the tools to do life in the most fulfilling, alive way possible, for free,
They might turn to other things.
Chassidus is vitality.
Its feeling.
Its feeling alive.
Its passion.
Its seeing everything in life from a “WOW” perspective, instead of an “eh” perspective.
And each person has the choice of how they want to see life.
-
I just had a conversation with someone about love, and dating, and finding the one, and marriage,
And they said something,
Something very interesting to me.
“Love isn't a fairy tale, its not all fun and exciting, and romantic.”
And something inside of me got confused.
It might be my “innocence”.
Or it might be my “immaturity’.
But i said-
Wait a second.
I don't understand that.
I said,
Why cant love be a fairy tale,
Why cant it be fun and exciting
And romantic?
Why cant it be?
You can decide.
You can decide how you want your life to be.
You can decide how you want your marriage to be,
YOU get to decide.
You can choose what you want to focus on in life,
You can decide on how you want to live…
Do you want music in your life?
Do you want nature,
Do you want a 9-5 job?
Do you want a fairy tale,
Romance
Love and positivity?
Or do you not want that?
If you think love isn't a fairy tale, then it wont be one.
If you think life is sad or depressing, it will be.
-
It just depends on what you want.
And how much you want that.
How much are you willing to put in the effort it takes to achieve a life how you want, how you dream.
NOTHING is impossible,
Nothing is impossible if you know who you are, and have the tools to get there
Dream.
Learn Chassidus.
Live life with vitality.
Your dreams are reality.
Think about it-
How “childish” was that dream of The Alter Rebbe,
For everyone to be like one big family, in love, and with positivity, vitality, light, self awareness, growth, healing-
Do you think anyone ever told The Alter Rebbe that his dreams were "unrealistic"?
The only other person I can think of who has dreams like those are children,
And you know what-
We've all been there.
We've all been that child before,
Dreaming of that.
Wishing of that.
Wishing upon a star for that to happen.
Where is that?
Where is that innocence?
Where is that dream of yours?
Is it covered?
Has it been beaten down by others opinions, and words of doubt and how "unrealistic" it is?
Is it hidden under a pile of taxes, and bills?
Is it hidden under the heavy routine and apathy that has been labelled as “mature/adult/grown up?”
Well, if its “mature” and “adult” to forget about your dreams,
I want nothing to do with that.
If there’s only one thing I've learnt in my whole life, its to never let that child inside of you go.
Hold on to it as tight and strong as possible.
Because
That
Is
Why
You’re
Here.
Go on,
Go grow up,
Go make your dreams into reality.
